7 Things - October

Each month, I will push out 7 things I found particularly interesting. As always, if you have something I might like, email me at colin@colinkeady.com or just text me if you have my number.

1. cold/mess by Prateek Kuhad – Song

I have absolutely loved this song. In all honesty, it was in Ted Lasso sooooo. I may be a bit biased for that reason. But I do think this is an exceptional song and it is far worth the listen.

2. The similarities between comedy and music by Dave Chappelle - Quote

Near the beginning of the 9th episode of the first season of The Midnight Miracle, Dave Chappelle lets off this quote:

“My favorite comedians are like musicians, and the audience is instrument. And the music they make is for your laughter. And that is the laughter I have scored my life my entire life to.”

3. Did you know that it is impossible to measure coastlines? – Video/Concept

Here is a video from RealLifeLore that will do a much better job explaining this than I will. Essentially, it is impossible to produce an accurate and objective measurement of coastlines. This occurs for two reasons. The first, water moves and so does the coastline, so it is impossible to measure the line at the same water height as the waves come and go. Secondly, and where the meat of this issue really is, the coastlines aren’t straight! Who would have expected that? Because they are not straight, the size of your measuring unit becomes very important. You could easily measure a coastline in 1-mile measures, but you will miss the indentions and protrusions of the edge. So, you bump down to ½ a mile, and while it is better, you are still missing some of those indentions. Meanwhile, the measurement is increasing because the accurate is also increasing. This continues to the point that you are having to measure in the smallest unit possible, and your measurement could be approaching infinity given how wacky some coastlines are.

4. What Bobby McIlvaine Left Behind – Article

I know I am two months late on this one. But how does a family cope with losing their son to 9/11? This article explores the complex process of dealing with trauma and has one of the most interesting stories of a family that I have ever heard. Everyone loves, learns, and heals differently; and this story is a testament to that notion. Life Loves On, and I bet Bobby would have been a really cool guy to know.

5. Duende – Word

A duende is a troll-like figure of Spanish folklore. It roughly translates into “ghost” in Spanish. If that is wrong, blame Merriam-Webster. But this figure would possess humans and fill them with a euphoric awe of the world around them. So, the world has developed the connotation of “using art to move someone through beauty” or at least that is what I can find on it. But I think that is really cool.

6. billclintonswag.com - Website

This website allows you to customize what albums President Clinton is listening to. I made mine, but y’all should really check this out. Isn’t this so cool?

7. Come Pick Me Up by Ryan Adams – Song

Credit to where credit is due: Kinley Pritchard showed me this song. I always loving asking new people whom I meet what they favorite song is. This was her response. While it is not the greatest song of all time, something about that harmonic and his voice really gets me into the song. Cheers to this one!
